Bristol Beacon, which was formerly known as Colston Hall, was originally built in 1867 and has since been through three renovations, in 1993, 2009 and 2023-24. As part of this latest refurbishment, Bristol Beacon plans to become the first net zero concert hall in the UK by 2030.
The hall is a Grade II listed building that became popular for classical music and theatre in the late 1800’s, and has been a venue for the arts ever since.
The main foyer of the building boasts a grand spiral staircase, pictured below, which the SD cosmetic repairs team were asked to repair and respray as part of a large-scale renovation project for the hall.
Alongside the work carried out on the foyer staircase, the SD cosmetic repairs crew were also invited to undertake professional respraying of the railings situated in the main concert hall.
With a capacity for 1,800 seating, the main auditorium sees a lot of footfall and as such the handrails were in need of some care.
On behalf of Willmott Dixon, SD have been on-site from August 2023 through to early 2024 carrying out these repairs to an exceptionally high standard, taking great care with the historic building.
With every repair, we endeavour to retain and respect the heritage of older buildings to maintain their historical integrity. We provide professional maintenance and repair solutions to tackle any decay and deterioration, whilst preserving the original fabric of these time-honoured structures.
