Just two weeks after they topped the GT4 Pro-Am podium in the Ardennes, the Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 will be back in action for this weekend’s two-hour thrash around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
The SD teams-backed drivers currently lead the GT4 Pro-Am standings, holding a 7.5-point cushion over the UltraTek Nissan crew of Kelvin Fletcher and Martin Plowman as the fight for this year’s title narrows down to a two-horse race.
Nick and Scott’s second victory of the year brings with it a well-timed confidence boost heading into the end of season run-in.
Nick says:
“It feels like Spa and Brands are almost back-to-back as we’ve had so little down time, but I can’t wait to get back out there again. The win at Spa really meant a huge amount to me. It proved to me that I can fight with the big boys in this championship and now I really feel a part of it. I’m heading to Brands more confident than I’ve ever felt.
“Getting that first win on track and getting that monkey off my back does work wonders. I’m loving everything right now – being with such a great team, having Scott alongside me – it’s all great right now. Brands isn’t my favourite track, but we’ve definitely got some good momentum going into this weekend. I’m not thinking about the championship. I’m just concentrating on each race as it comes, and if we do our best then the result and the championship looks after itself.”
Scott says:
“I’m feeling good ahead of Brands, and it’s clear that we’re well in the championship fight. I think it now is a two-horse race between us and the Nissan guys. It’s a good-natured battle, but it’ll be a very close one.
“The Balance of Performance hasn’t really been on our side recently, and I think we’ll struggle on the long run up the hill out of Surtees corner because that section of track is all about raw power, which we’re limited on. But around the back we’ll find time in the third- and fourth-gear corners. Brands is my home race and I have a good record there. It’s not to the point where we’re going into the race only caring about where the Nissan is, but it’s definitely that time of year where we have to avoid mistakes, take our chances and drive any advantage we have home.”
