SD’s sealant team were honoured and delighted to be one of those onsite at these NHS hospitals, providing mastic application to ensure that the facilities were sealed and secure.
NHS Louisa Jordan – Glasgow
Scotland’s emergency facility at the SEC in Glasgow was named the NHS Louisa Jordan, after a nurse who died from typhus while serving in Serbia during an outbreak in 1915.
The new hospital took up a 10,000 square metre hall and had the capacity for 516 beds, where nearly 800 contractors and NHS staff worked on site.
A big thank you goes to our sealant applicators in Scotland who completed work to such a high standard under immense pressure at the Louisa Jordan, and thanks also go out to partner CSP ltd. who supplied Everbuild Cleanroom 565 for the project.
NHS Nightingale Hospital – Bristol
Shortly after work began in Glasgow, the Exhibition and Conference Centre on UWE Bristol’s Frenchay campus was to be transformed into the NHS Nightingale Hospital, a 300-bed temporary facility that would treat covid-19 patients from North Somerset.
The hospital needed to be fully operational before month’s end and so our sealant applicators in the South West got to work straight away, taking great care in carrying out the job while also adhering to the social distancing and strict safety precautions necessary.
NHS Ysbyty Enfys Glannau Dyfrdwy – Deeside
One of three new hospitals built in North Wales, the Ysbyty Enfys Glannau Dyfrdwy – or ‘Rainbow Hospital Deeside’ in English – has been constructed on the site of Deeside Leisure Centre and houses 250 beds on behalf of Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The SD team were called upon to provide sealant application to the temporary hospital within a very quick timescale so that patients could be treated in a safe environment as soon as possible. A big thanks go out to our applicators who did a fantastic job under strict conditions here, and also to products partner Solseal who provided Everbuild Cleanroom 565.
Bay Field Hospital – Swansea
Elsewhere in Wales, a former Swansea Bay motor factory was transformed into a high-tech NHS hospital in just over a month and housed 420 beds ready for new coronavirus patients, with the capacity for an extra 540 beds if needed.
NHS Hospital North West – Manchester
In Manchester, a new Covid-19-free hub for cancer patients had been developed to help the large numbers of patients with other conditions whose treatment was put on hold when the pandemic began.
The SD team were on-site at Christie in March and April of 2021 to ensure that the facility was ready for patients arriving from all over the north-west who had previously been treated at their local hospitals.
From Cardiff to Glasgow, conference centres and stadium facilities have been transformed in quick succession into emergency field hospital sites, each with the capacity to hold hundreds and even thousands of patient beds. Projects such as these are a huge undertaking and we are incredibly proud of the team on-site for having delivered such excellent work in what are very difficult circumstances.
Results
We were thrilled to have been a part of the team working to find a resolution for the burden Covid-19 placed on the NHS, and the team on the ground were very proud to be working on hospitals providing much needed care.
