The SD-backed Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG will be the machine to watch this weekend in the fight for the GT4 Pro-Am honours, with just three points separating Nick and Scott from the rival UltraTek Nissan 370Z crew of Kelvin Fletcher and Martin Plowman.
The two title contenders will go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all two-hour race on Sunday. However, despite their rivals claiming all of the pressure is on Nick and Scott, neither driver is feeling it.
Nick and Scott go into the season finale on a strong run of form, having finished on the class podium in each of the last three outings. They hope that continuing that momentum can be enough to get the job done this weekend.
Nick says:
“It’s been a really long wait since the last round at Brands Hatch, and we’re both relaxed going into Donington because we can only control our own race – and whatever happens, happens.
“I’m expecting a really close race this weekend, but I’m going into it to enjoy it. Sure, it’s probably the biggest race I’ve had in my career so far as we’re in a title-winning position, but I go racing for fun, first and foremost.
“I think both ourselves and the Nissan boys have a very similar package on the track. We’ve both got great professional drivers and strong teams behind us, but I’d say the Mercedes-AMG edges the Nissan in terms of performance and drivability.
“I love Donington Park, it’s one of my favourite tracks. It’s fast and flowing and there’s so much elevation change. It’s a real driver’s circuit. It looks like it’s going to be wet for the race, which will spice things up even more. Bring it on!”
Scott says:
“We’re not looking to approach the weekend any differently to how we’ve gone racing all season. Nick and I have had our best season to date on track and our most enjoyable off the circuit with the people and the team we have around us., so we’ll go into the weekend the same as always.
“I don’t feel we have any pressure on us. We can only do what we have been all season, the things that have got us to this point, so there’s no need to change or to feel pressured into focusing solely on the title.
“I think Donington will suit the Mercedes, with sectors one and two both having a lot of medium-speed corners. Sector three will be tougher with the two ultra-slow hairpins and the uphill exit, but we’ll be able to do solid lap times I’m sure and the car is well suited if it’s wet.
“There are only three points in it and we’re up against a strong pairing, so things could go either way, it will just come down to whoever does the best job on Sunday.”
