Chepstow-based SD teams & Cosmetic Repairs last week honoured Welsh cycling legend Geraint Thomas at the 2015 USN Welsh Cycling Awards, by sponsoring and presenting the sportsman with the Elite Cyclist of the Year Award.
As a keen cyclist, Nick Jones, Director of the UK’s leading sealant specialists, jumped at the chance to get involved in the prestigious event which they have sponsored previously.
The nominees in the running for Elite Cyclist of the Year were Geraint Thomas MBE, Owain Doull, Manon Carpenter and Elinor Barker. The evening saw downhill mountain bike racing champion Manon Carpenter secure the runner-up prize.
Geraint Thomas MBE took home the top award after yet another successful year that saw him win the E3 Harelbeke, podium at Gent-Wevelgem and be part of the team that saw Chris Froome win his second Tour de France.
SD’s Mike Horder took to the stage to present the award to Geraint, who couldn’t be at the event but did accept the award via video message.
Speaking about the Welsh Cycling Awards, SD Director Nick said: “We were so pleased to be able to be involved in the Awards for yet another year, and it really was an evening to remember.
“Cycling has gained massive popularity in Wales in recent years, and it’s fantastic to be able to honour our elite sportsmen and women, as well as those just starting out on their journeys, in a dedicated event.
Nominees, judges and cycling enthusiast gathered at Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa for a champagne reception and three-course meal, before the winners were announced and live entertainment kicked of the celebrations.
