The championship visits Norfolk for two one-hour races this Sunday 27th May, with Nick and Scott sitting third in the GT4 Pro-Am Championship standings in their Team Parker Racing-run Mercedes-AMG, just 2.5 points behind the class leaders.
Their standing is the result of a huge effort so far this year, which brought them a race victory at Oulton Park and then a fighting fourth place from the last round at Rockingham, despite the car having to serve a winner’s time penalty during its pit stop and Nick being torpedoed by a rival during his opening stint.
The three-mile Snetterton 300 circuit is a favourite testing destination for many teams, meaning the competition there is always fierce. However, Nick and Scott will carry no success penalty into this round and both are feeling confident of another strong result.
Nick says: “Considering that Rockingham is historically my worst circuit, to leave there with a fourth place and well within sight of the championship lead has given me a real confidence boost. We’ve got to aim high this weekend and look for the Pro-Am win, but at the same time consistency and scoring big points counts so much in this championship.
“We’re making steps forward with the car at each round and it’ll likely be even better this weekend as we’re finding things with the setup. Snetterton is a pretty technical track, and the hour-long races tend to be a bit more crash-bang-wallop than the endurance events as there’s a less tactical approach to them. But I know I have a great team and a great team-mate with me so I can’t wait to get going.”
Scott says: “I’m feeling really confident ahead of Snetterton, despite the fact I don’t think the one-hour races do us much of a favour as a Pro-Am pairing. The Am drivers tend to lose a lot of their time to the higher-rated Silver drivers during their in- and out-laps from the pits. In the longer races, I have more time in my stint to make up that loss, but during shorter races it’s much harder. But the one-hour events are quite nice because as a Pro I can do my own qualifying and start a race myself.
“We know we have a quick car. The longer track will also suit us as we’ll be able to use more of the power from the turbo and the circuit is a nice mix of fast, flowing corners and tighter, technical ones. Nick has shown great pace during testing, so we’re ready to go and fight for another podium and keep picking up the points.”
